| As the adage goes, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. Yet, what are the features that we evaluate to determine physical attractiveness and why should you care? | ![]() |
|
| Many polls and surveys were conducted to define physical attractiveness. Some studies were done to explore how much physical attractiveness contributes to certain positive outcomes in one’s life.
These studies concluded that a person’s smile is what we deem most important when evaluating physical attractiveness! This means the teeth, gums and lips are number one criteria. This conclusion also held true for all race, creed, color and sex of people throughout the world. |

| Furthermore, these studies concluded that physical attractiveness is important in a person’s life across the board. An attractive smile ties to positive outcomes in social settings, business settings, self-perception and perception by the opposite sex. Listed below are the conclusions drawn: | ||
| Smiles in a Social and Business Setting | ||
Over 90% of people polled said they were more likely to notice a person’s smile when they first met and less likely to notice other features, such as the eyes, figure or height. More then 70% believe people with an attractive smile make friends easier than those with an unattractive smile. Almost 75% believe that an attractive smile is important in getting a job and succeeding in the workplace. Over 30% of those polled believe that an unattractive smile overshadows the rest of a person’s appearance. |

| Whether you desire improvements or absolute wins in your social or business life or if you just want to improve how you feel about yourself, these studies all point to the same action: change your smile to change your life! This year’s top performing investment in your portfolio could very well be “The New You”. The good news is that the dental community continues to develop better tools, materials and methods for dentists that desire to stay ahead of the result-curve to maximize your smile. Computer simulations, digital impressions, computer assisted anesthesia, and computer manufactured restorations are just some examples of technological advancement to help advanced cosmetic dentists make certain that patients can acquire a predictable, beautiful and long-lasting smile with more comfort and less stress than ever before. The key, however, lies in your choice of dentist. While there is no board certification designation for cosmetic dentists, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) instituted a detailed credentialing process to test and evaluate the experience, ability, and artistic talent of its members. Currently, only about 275 of the 8,000 AACD members are Accredited Members. |
